Another Penguin Attack!
You may have heard the buzz about another monster Google algorithm update that hit the SEO realm last week. There was warning, but it still caught many by surprise as it came out months before expected.
This was a major algorithm update, and it affected many businesses. But, there is good news! The impact of what is being called “Penguin 2.0” was minimal for our clients, many even moving up in Google rankings. Because we keep up with changes and adjust our strategy on an ongoing basis, our work is usually in line with updates. This was no exception.
Google changes its search algorithm 500-600 times per year. Most of these adjustments are minor, but the occasional major ones like this, can have a more significant impact on search results. It can be especially hard hitting if you are using black hat SEO techniques used to try to trick the search engines. If you felt the pain this time around, you may want to investigate your website and linking profile.
If you are not an SEO client already, we’d be happy to review your SEO situation for free.
Our job is to know about these things and to manage them as they occur. Algorithm shifts often overreach and, as the saying goes, they throw out the baby with the bathwater. While your site may be good, you don’t know what the sites linking to you are doing, or who links to them.
Sometimes we too must recover, but this time all it well. We take steps on a regular basis to solidify page rank according to the latest guidelines, sticking with the goal of a building a realistic linking profile and solid websites that give customers the answers and solutions they need.
